Burmail Fort
Fuel was delivered to Salalah by sea. The road across the jebel was inoperable on account of adoo activity, Raysut had not been developed into a harbour and there was not the airlift capacity to bring any quantity in by that method. The oil barrels were rolled off the ship and floated onto the beach. The empty barrels were used for all sorts of purposes but mainly for construction of various military buildings. They were the forerunner of the Hesco Basket
