This man stepped on an antipersonnel mine. He arrived at the FST twenty minutes after being injured. His left foot was missing, his right leg was peppered with debris and he had a two fist size defect in his right arm.
There are further photographs on the clinical pages one of which shows that we had inserted a bladder catheter. We had no measurement of JVP and production of urine was a good sign that we had transfused patients adequately.
The usual method of cleansing the wound after debridement was with hydrogen peroxide. This not only cleansed but also arrested oozing of blood.
