| The Fenwall pack is a
simple plastic bag containing an anti-coagulant that is used to collect
blood from donors. 55FST had no temperature controlled blood bank. All
we managed with was a rather rusty domestic refrigerator of uncertain
age which had no accurate temperature control. Blood was stored
for as little time as possible. If blood was needed a request was
broadcast around the camp or perhaps a direct appeal was made in
the camp cinema for example for some " B Negative blood for a casualty"
and without fail donors would come forward and be bled into the Fenwall
packs. On two occasions we did request and receive blood from donors at
RAF Masirah. Details of the amounts donated and transfused can be found
in
Dave Barrow's Report. A request was made by Joe Johnston
to Lt Col Ticehurst at the MOD for a
blood bank. |
